The fee for an initial consultation is 190,00 EUR net (plus VAT) in accordance with the statutory requirements of the German Lawyers’ Fees Act (RVG). For any further legal representation, the remuneration is agreed upon individually, based either on a transparent hourly rate, a flat-fee agreement, or the statutory fees of the RVG.

Both paths follow fundamentally different approaches, which is why a legal combination is strictly prohibited: A mediator must remain strictly neutral and support the parties in finding their own solution. An attorney, on the other hand, acts as an advocate and is partial. In this role, the goal is to enforce the interests of one’s own client, whether in or out of court.

No. There are no additional costs. The consultation, the handling of your case, and all correspondence can be conducted entirely in English at no extra charge.

In the family court, legal representation is strictly mandatory for the divorce itself as well as for financial matters, such as maintenance, assets, or household goods. In matters involving children, such as custody or contact rights, the court can order legal representation. Even if this is not the case, professional legal guidance in these highly sensitive matters is strongly advised to ensure the best possible protection for the interests of both the children and yourself.

Yes, retaining services and ongoing support can be handled completely remotely and digitally. If a court hearing is scheduled, the primary goal is always to participate via video conference. If this is not permitted in an individual case, personal attendance at the court will be required for that specific hearing.

The duration depends heavily on whether the divorce is amicable or if disputed issues must be resolved in court. As a realistic timeline, you should expect at least 4 to 5 months for an uncontested divorce. The exact duration varies depending on the current workload of the responsible family court.

Under German law, a lawyer is strictly prohibited from representing both spouses. An attorney always represents only one party in a divorce. However, if the divorce is completely amicable, you can still save money: it is sufficient for one partner to file for divorce through their lawyer, while the other partner simply consents to the application in court. In this scenario, a second lawyer is not needed. A second attorney is only required if separate applications are to be submitted — for example, regarding support or the division of assets.
